The Return

by Ty Roxy

/

about

Ty Roxy's single "The Return," tells the story of a return without return – a soldier returning from war who can never truly come home. Versions of the song, now recorded by the band, have been heard since the first Ty Roxy gigs in 2021.

Once again, the song's lyrics were inspired by the world of movies, and in the final notes, a subtle tribute is paid to a film soundtrack composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

In February 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine, performing a pop song about war felt different and more problematic. As a result, the recording of the song was delayed. The present moment doesn't seem much brighter. In October 2023, the escalated situation between Israel and Palestine has starkly revealed the corruption of Western morality and the impotence of international law, as Israel's occupier power's war crimes against Palestinian civilians continue to accumulate.

What will remain of us if we avert our gaze?

lyrics

By the minute
the voice is growing stronger in me
And every minute the feeling
I’m not where I should be
It’s in me
I’m in the city that’s no city no more
All that’s left are just the ruins of the war
Think I’m out
But I’m still banging the door
You can turn your back
To the killing and dying
But you can’t go back
To greeting and smiling
Saying ‘Have a nice day’
This is not the right way to go back on living
Don’t look back
To the suffering and crying
‘cause you can’t go back
You just keep on running
There’s no salvation
The Book of Revelation is turning pages in my sleep
What’s won in the battle
Is lost inside
To fight until the end
Is that a crime
Tell me how
Can you call this justice
Damn your honor and pride
We’re all marching to die
Against the wall we’re crying
Please
Take me home
But I can’t say goodbye
To the war inside
Let me put down my arms
And take me into your arms
